2009-09-10 - MODIS-Aqua atmospheric products Collection 5.1 available in Giovanni NEESPI Selected aerosol and cloud parameters from the new version of MODIS-Aqua (Collection 5.1) products have been integrated into Giovanni NEESPI Monthly and NEESPI Daily instances, respectively. The products of Collection 5.1 (MYD08_M3.051 and MYD08_D3.051) have replaced original Collection 5 (MYD08_M3.005 and MYD08_D3.005). The principal changes in Collection 5.1 are: 1) improvements to the Deep Blue Aerosol retrieval; 2) improved (non-Lambertian) parameterization of the surface BRDF effect; 3) cloud screening and QA/QC flag selection, leading to improved accuracy over bright reflecting surfaces; and 4) a fix to the Rayleigh correction code that was causing some dropouts of the Cloud Optical Thickness retrieval over land.
